# Frequently Used Powershell commands

In the spirit of "It needs to be written down," using primarily Windows means doing a lot of Powershell. Yes, I could use git/msys or cygwin, or wsl, but Powershell is a *shell* and much of what I need to do can be done with Powershell. If only I didn't have 20+ years of muscle memory for bash. For instance,
```
get-command select-string
```
covers two of my most used Powershell commands. ```Get-Command``` is ```which.``` That's it, that's the trick. I can *never* remember it, but I *refuse* alias it because at some point it. will. stick. ```Select-String``` is grep, but no recursion through directories. You need to use:
```
get-childitem *.txt | sls tree
```
Note, ```sls``` is an alias for ```Select-String.```

To change the ```pwsh``` environment, use
```
vim $profile
```

Yes, installing vim will work from Powershell. Small mercies. And ```$profile``` is a variable to your Powershell login script. Where you can add things to your path like when you're building ```Dawn``` for WebGPU and need to learn how to compile it with Chromium depot_tools. Which pollutes your Python. I'm not bitter about time lost to this. No, not at all.
